A key to Sir Paul McCartney's childhood home has sold for £5,000 at auction, double the estimated price.
The key belonged to 20 Forthlin Road in Allerton, Liverpool, where Sir Paul lived with his family during the 1950s and 60s. During his time there, he composed some of the earliest Beatles' tracks with John Lennon in the council house.
How the Key Came to Auction
Two years after Sir Paul, his father, and brother moved out in 1963, American superfan Kathy Salt wrote to Ashley Jones, who was then living in the house. Jones enclosed a photograph of the house and the key, complete with a tag, in his reply.
The three items — the key, photograph, and letter — were sold at Dominic Winter Auctioneers in the Cotswolds on Wednesday, achieving the hammer price of £5,000.
