Liverpool City Council's Road Safety Team is inviting children aged 4 to 16 living in or around Liverpool to name four new road safety characters designed to teach young people essential skills for staying safe on the streets.

The characters were styled with input from Liverpool school children and each has distinct characteristics to reflect the diversity of children in the city. While each character will have a primary form of travel — such as car passenger, walking or wheeling — they will also appear in other situations to represent the various ways children travel to and from school and activities.

How the characters will be used

The characters will feature in interactive road safety campaigns and educational materials distributed to schools across the city, including leaflets, booklets, banners and lesson resources. Teachers, parents, carers and youth leaders will have access to these materials.

How to enter the competition

Children can submit a name for their favourite character or provide names for all four. Each entry must include the suggested name and a short explanation of why it was chosen.

Entry forms are available from schools and local libraries, or by email at road.safety@liverpool.gov.uk. The closing date for all entries is Wednesday 4 November 2026.

Prizes and prize ceremony

Prizes will be awarded to the four winning entries, with additional runner-up prizes available. A prize giving event will be held at Liverpool Town Hall on Monday 30 November 2026 at 10am.

Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, said: "We want our road safety education to really resonate with young people, and who better to help us build these campaigns than the children themselves? I know that our young people are incredibly creative, and I can't wait to see the imaginative names they come up with for our new characters. This competition is a fantastic, fun way to get people talking about road safety together."
